Neiman Marcus Goes Big in 2009 Christmas Book

By Ann Hunter on October 6, 2009

Recession be damned. The Dallas based retailer, Neiman Marcus, unveiled their 2009 Christmas book complete with jaw-dropping items and experiences.

Their 83rd edition, Neiman Marcus has been publishing the fantasy book since 1926 and will argue that the arrival of their catalog marks the official start of the holiday season.

Gerald Barnes, President and CEO of Neiman Marcus Direct had this to say about the 2009 catalog, “This year's array of gifts has raised the bar to new heights, featuring items at the highest levels of quality and technology.”

He wasn’t kidding about raising the bar but the question remains, “which bar?”

If you’re talking the silliness bar, then feel free to purchase the “Customized Cupcake Car.” For a mere $25,000 dads across America can humiliate themselves by cruising at 7 mph in the icing-pink giant motorized cupcake. It comes complete with a topping hat to match the car.

For those looking for something a bit more serious, buyers can enjoy the “World’s Fastest Electric Motorcycle” for the significant sum of $73k. The bike offers 100 ft-lbs of instant torque to ratchet a rider up to 150 mph in seconds. For those worried that it will be a bit too much bike, the purchase comes with one-on-one test track training with a pro rider.

Others looking to get off of the ground can opt for the “Icon A5 Sports Aircraft and Pilot Training “– for two. The Icon A5 is an amphibious two-seater plane designed for everyone. With a range of 345 miles, the Icon can take on land, sea and air with its light, carbon fiber frame. The best feature? “Spy-movie wings that rotate up and fold back out of the way.” Order it today for uhh, cough, $250,000.

In addition to the above, Neiman Marcus catalogers can flip through pages featuring the 2010 Jaguar XJL, Insect Lab Artwork and The Maker’s Mark Experience.

Many of the items for sale in the catalog are out of the price range of the typical Christmas shopper but over 40% of the products are priced at $250 or less.
