Jon Gosselin Takes the Money and Kate Runs to the Media

By Shane Craver on October 5, 2009

Stoking the fires of divorce, Jon Gosselin took a character hit by emptying out the family’s joint bank account over the weekend.

Kate Gosselin claims that $230,000 of the $231,000 was withdrawn from the account while sobbing, “I can’t pay my bills.”

Earlier in the year, Kate had made a similar move by removing $100,000 from the account to keep it safe, claiming, “I had taken $100,000 and put it aside safely so I could buy my kids food if needed.”

Jon, who had appeared on Larry King live, winning sympathy and presenting himself as a protective father, now appears to be a greedy ex-husband who wants to steal from the family nest egg.

The move comes after Jon and his new attorney shut down production of the TLC reality show, Jon and Kate Plus 8. Kate Gosselin claims to have informed her children of the shutdown which led to “wailing and sobbing,” as the children “love our crew. They are angry.”

Jon painted another picture on his Larry King appearance stating that it was harmful to air the family’s problems during the divorce. Jon believes that his children would be better off out of the public eye during what is clearly becoming a turbulent time in their lives.

Kate on the other hand, chooses to continue production regardless of the drama or effect on her children.

Kate Gosselin and her attorney plan on going to court to reclaim the $230,000 removed from the joint account.

Not so fast. Jon Gosselin is now claiming that Kate is stretching the truth by about $200,000. Jon admits that he withdrew $22k the previous week and he has "the paper trail to prove it."

The father of 8 claims that Kate Gosselin is "fabricating" the truth and that the family has 11 bank accounts. Jon claims that Kate is using the $230k withdraw claim because "She's hiding money."
