Jon and Kate Plus 8 Gets Rebranded

By Shane Craver on September 30, 2009

The Learning Channel (TLC) has changed the name of their hit follow-people-around-with-cameras show, "Jon and Kate Plus 8."

The new title is now "Kate Plus 8."

An easy enough fix as the show's alliterative title (straight off of Al Ries' 9th Immutable Law of Branding) was grounded by "Kate."

The not-so-surprising change comes after the couple equally lost their minds and allegedly started to stray from their marriage vows. Kate reportedly got a bit to close to her bodyguard's body while Jon reportedly got a bit to cozy with a school teacher.

Jon seems to be taking the brunt of reputation damage as according to TV Guide's Craig Tomashoff, "(Jon's) kind of perceived as the villain in a lot of this."

For men across America who have watched the show, Jon gains a good deal of sympathy in having to be married to Kate. Despised by many of the show's fans as a selfish, money-grubbing control freak, Kate has taken every opportunity to gain favor by subtly bashing the father of her children in media appearances.
