Don’t Buy a Mac – At least for a few days

By Morgan Mayhew on September 29, 2009

Apple stores have been told that supplies of their iMac and Mac Mini lines are “constrained” and that future orders will not be fulfilled.

That’s Applespeak for “we’re updating the product lines.”

Rumors have been flying around Macland about an iMac refresh for sometime but the sandwich-box sized Mac Mini was speculated by some to be on its deathbed to be heralded only by Mac collectors.

Apple is notoriously secretive about new products and when they will be released, even if that only includes minor tweaks to an existing line.

While the iMac is a solid desktop and not going anywhere, the Mac Mini could very well be headed to the Apple archives.

Given that the Mac Mini does not come with a monitor and most Apple customers prefer to pair their Apple computers with Apple monitors it’s a problem-child product. You see, the Mac Mini runs only $600 but the least expensive display offered by Apple is a whopping $900.

It doesn’t make much sense to purchase drop $1,500 on a Mac Mini and monitor when an iMac with a built-in 20” screen runs only $1,200.

Sometimes, Apple acts like a gorgeous, seductive lady that lacks total common sense.
