Food Lovers Fat Loss System Day 1 – Eat, Eat, Eat.

By Shane Craver on September 29, 2009

Today, I kicked off the 21-day trail of the Food Lovers Fat Loss System. Since the name of this program is far too long and I probably burned two calories typing it, I'm going to acronymize it (nope, that's not a word) and call it FLFLS.<!-- break -->

The core concept behind this system is first, eating and eating often, and then sticking to a portion/food type control system that blends proteins, fast carbs and slow carbs with a smidgen of fats.

The fast carb/slow carb concept can be a bit confusing, especially for those still trying to figure out what a carb is.

For me, it was made a bit easier with some tips provided by author Tim Ferris and his "eat the same thing everyday" plan. The slow carb system does work, maybe not as well as a no-carb diet but at least you get more variety and don't become nauseous at the thought of bacon.

Back to the Food Lovers system, the program comes with a good deal of material including essentially a day planner, day-by-day coaching on an audio CD, menu systems and recipes. You can see all of it in the video below.

As I'm into the first few hours of the first day, I realize that this is not going to be an easy program for me.

Despite my ginormous size, I'm not a big eater. Lately I've been eating steel cut oats in the morning, no lunch and then a reasonable dinner. Most of my life, I would forgo breakfast and go for maybe lunch and dinner. According to Robert Ferguson, FLFLS's creator (and no more acronyms, I just had to spell it out in my head), that's my problem. I've slowed down my metabolism far too much and this program will get the fires burning once again.

Food Lovers requires you to eat three meals a day and snack like clockwork in between meals. I'm getting full just thinking about eating again after my breakfast of two eggs and oatmeal – but I'm going to have to eat a snack in about an hour and a half.

The only time in my life when I ate like this was in boot camp and I dreaded each meal. Did it work? Yes.

Maybe Ferguson is onto something.
