Reviewed: Tucker and Dale VS. EVIL

Wrong Turn be damned: Hillbillies are lovable despite their questionable hygiene.

Thanks to the magic of the Internets and Zune, we had a chance to watch Tucker & Dale VS. Evil before its theatre release on September 30th.

Expecting a B-Movie starring Pirate Steve (Alan Tudyk) from Dodgeball, we were in for positive surprise.

Based on two vacationing rednecks played by Tudyk and Tyler Labine, the movie flips the script on the college kid VS. crazy-smelly-dirty hillbillies.

Labine's role as a chubby, PBR guzzling savant could not have been played better. Neither Tudyk nor Dale overstepped their redneck boundaries keeping their characters near the top, but not going over the top with cliché dialog – a clearly difficult task.

Watching the trailer (below) you'll probably be left thinking that all the gags were given up in the promotions – thankfully, that's not the case at all. Audiences will be left rolling for the full 88 minutes.

Tucker & Dale is a fast peaking movie that manages to keep the laughs and plot flowing until the credits.

Cudos to freshman writer and director Eli Craig for turning the scary hillbilly genre literally inside out. Craig produced a unique and highly entertaining film that may be more loved by more fans than Shaun of the Dead.

After watching Tucker & Dale VS. Evil, revisit Deliverance for a more sympathetic viewpoint and remember: you too could he "half hillbilly."
