Teen Suspended for Removing Mexican Flag in Texas High School

I have a bad feeling that this is only going to get worse.

I understand that the kid took down the flag. However, throwing someone elses flag in the trash can is not right! That is disrespecting another country's flag which no one should do!! I respect the American flag, but this is going way to far! My people are being disrespected too much!!

Who said anything about the flag being thrown in the trash? Felix are you making things up? If not, cite your source.

The school district's spokesperson, Mrs. Moreno, said it was "trashed" although they could not find it in a trash can. Seems like everyone is playing games for their own ethnicity on this one.

What has happened to Respect? Yes this is America, but all of us have some cultural history that our family observes that others around us might not. That is what makes America great, no one has a monopoly on anything despite what some people seem to think. The few people inciting this on both sides by disrespecting what others have respect for are out of line.

I support that kid in Texas our children are being shown that if you are an American in your own country you dont count. Dont say that you might hurt someones feeling. Go to other countrys and its ok to treat Americans like crap. ITS TIME TO TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOOK! I can see a schools point, no reason to have cashes of the titans at highschools, so probably the best way to handle this is to band all flags but american flags at any time of year. This is America and if I was in Mexico I would not flaunt my flag if I was leaving my country to go to another country that was better, African Americans did the same things when they were SLAVES, Mexican Americans are having issues because we are trying to conserve are already dimished economy by deporting anyone who broke the law entering this country illegally. That seems fair, how can a country hold up any law if it trys to bend the law because of mass popular vote, America as of today has 30 million illegal immigrants, thats alot of non paid taxes, thats alot of medical drain, thats alot of police and local resource. If any culture wants to enter this country we must insist they follow the law. All I can say is try flying an American flag in Mexico and see how far you get. This is America and the only flag that should flown is the American flag. Such blatant disrespect for this nation that I spent 5 long years of my life protecting. If you left your native country to come here for a better life then you should be ready to leave your old country behind you. My great great grandfather moved his family here from Italy in the early 1910's and the only place they spoke Italian was in their home. They learned English and flew the American flag. My great great grandfather always said "I might be Italian by birth but I am an American by choice." Stop disrespecting my home, my country and my flag!

I think this kid should be given a pat on his back. There should be no other Flags being flown in this country without the US Flag, and these people who want respect for there countries flag need to go back to their country and waive their flag. This country flies one flag and only one flag the US Flag. I am Hispanic and I also take offense to the Mexican flag being flown in schools and most of my relitives are from Mexico. If I want to be Mexican I will go to Mexico. And everyone else who wants to be Mexican need to go back to Mexico.

Why is this holiday "Cinco de Mayo" so important here in the USA? Their own country men and women don't celebrate it in Mexico. I believe the administration at the school is at fault. They could have controlled it better. The prior days problems should have warranted the removal of the Mexican flag. They should have known that this would have cause the problems they have now. I'M PROUD TO BE AMERICAN. I fly the American flag everyday.

First of all, that boy had no right removing that flag and doing whatever it was that he did with it, whether it was throwing it in the trash or anything else. What he should have done, if anything, was get an American flag and hang it beside the Mexican flag...not above it, not below it but beside it. Everyone has a right to be proud of their heritage and celebrate things that go along with that heritage. No one has the right to take that privilege away.

Secondly, we are a pompous nation in thinking that we are so much better than anyone else. I mean, please, three quarters of the people in this country can't even spell and has been proven in most of the comments previously posted. Its embarrassing to read through one of these pissing and moaning and holier-than-thou comments and see that most of the comment wasn't even spelled correctly. Don't get me wrong, I'm very grateful for the "freedom" and opportunities offered in our country but its really embarrassing when the first people to complain can't even spell.

If you are going to rant and rave about how much better you are than someone else, get your facts right and please use good grammar and spell check. Be grateful that you still have the freedom to voice your opinion but don't disgrace it.

Why would an American school let a Mexican flag be flown ABOVE an American flag? I know all about what the American flag represents. I know how much blood was spilled to keep that flag flying. More importantly, flying the American flag shows that the school and the territory on which it stands is OURS! It's America. It's our tax money that supports it, that built it, that maintains it. It is NOT Mexico or Germany or Russia or Canada. It is OURS. In the USA, the American flag is posted ABOVE all other flags - and I don't care what your heritage is or where you come form.

My parents immigrated (legally!) to this country from Germany when I was 2 years old in 1957. Guess which flag is flying high in my front yard... yup, the Stars and Stripes! I'm not ashamed to identify myself as of German descent, but the small German flag I have displayed in my office is also dwarfed by the American flags I have in the room (also historical American hats from American eras and wars). It's ok to honor (and even love) the country of one's birth, but sheesh, I'd never have hoisted a German flag at my high school! If I had and someone ripped it down, I'd have "duly noted" that and minded my Ps & Qs, and rethought where my allegiance lies. Today, as an elementary school teacher of 27 years, I'm happy to lead my class in the Pledge of Allegiance each morning. I challenge my Mexican American fellow citizens who disagree with me to re-examine and adjust their attitudes. And if you are a Mexican American who agrees, I challenge you to voice your opinion and speak up for the countless dead who have died for our/your freedom! Honor the millions who have come legally and made this country what it is, a shining city on a hill!

First, I'm looking at the picture and not seeing where this kid gets off. The flag wasn't run up a pole and I don't see how it is over the American flag. If a kid posted up a flag for Cinco de Mayo, who really cares? So when another kid rips down that private property and "trashes" it, that's what merits a suspension.

If you think this kid did the right thing, don't bother complaining when you see a video of the American flag being burned elsewhere. Is it wrong for those folks to burn our flag? Yes. So why can't we do the same thing? Because I'd like to think we're better.

My sons go to Medina Valley schools in Castroville, Texas. Each morning, when they and all the other American kids stand and say the Pledge of Allegiance, the Mexican-American kids sit at their desks and gossip, crack jokes, laugh, and giggle. If the Mexicans can't participate in America's culture and traditions, then I say go back to Mexico, a true failure of a country! Nothing to be proud of there!

At my school, a public university, we have a building where the flags of all the nations are hung. It's beautiful and inspiring to see all the flags blowing amongst each other. There is nothing wrong with flying flags of other nations--solo, or with the American flag. The only thing that should be requisite is that they follow the proper procedures with handling the flags of both nations and respect the laws of the land they are in. Here, in America, that would mean not flying any other nations flag above the American flag.

The school and the children in it have a right to display flags of their choice. They do not have a right to desecrate flags not to their liking. If a flag is displayed improperly, they should make it known. If the school/student refuses to cooperate, then they should make it an issue. Desecrating any nations flag is disrespectful and when people--mostly right wing tea baggers--stand behind people like this, it just goes to show what a bunch of xenophobic bigots we "Americans" are.

By the way, I bet all you silly rednecks proudly wearing your flag t-shirts and underpants don't realize that anytime there is a flag displayed on an article of clothing, that article of clothing becomes a flag. So when you're dripping barbecue sauce onto your Ol' Glory t-shirt or pulling a star spangled wedgie out of your ass crack, you, my friend, are committing about 50 levels of disrespect.

This is just all bullshit from a bunch of bleeding hearts that want to keep there jobs by not offending anyone. Being "Politically Correct" has gotten way out of hand. This is the United States of AMERICA. There cultures that are given a whole month to celebrate there heritage: African Heritage Month, Asian-American Heritage month,and oh yea, HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH. So you people that think all Americans are racist because we won't let you hang flags other than the AMERICAN flag, you can kiss my ass of European & Native American descent. I served this country in the Military for most of my adult life against all enemies, FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC. If you are not for this country you are against it, therefore you are the ENEMY, and don't give two shits where your ancestors came from.

I'll start by saying that I am white but have two adopted daughters who are biracial (black/white) and I grew up in San Diego so I have many hispanic friends. I'm not sure I understand this desire to celebrate a home country you have decided to abandon. If I had left Denmark (home of my great-great-great grandfather) in the last generation, I might feel something more towards Denmark, but I would certainly be more inclined to celebrate my new country's heritage than the one I had left. And punishing kids for wanting to show their patriotism for America seems a little anti-America. How can you allow one but not the other? Now, whoever took the flag down, should have treated it with the same respect you would give to an American flag, so if his punishment was for disrespecting the flag, then so be it. And truthfully, schools have taken the stance that religion is off limits and they should do the same with politics. These are American schools, they should be able to display the American flag, but beyond that the stance should be 'Sorry but that is outside of policy.'

Wish I could seat every Mexican National down and explain how it is very disrespectful to boo the American Flag, Its Traditions and Its National Anthem. client retires at 65 and starts receiving social security. how much is he allowed to make over his ss and still not be taxed on the ss income?, if he starts taking income out of his Roth IRA, does that income effect the amount of ss he could be taxed on or since it's tax-free income, it wont effect the ss income at all?
