American Idol Recap: DeWyze Shines, Aaron Kelly Heading Home

By Ann Hunter on May 5, 2010

It was Sinatra week on Fox’s American Idol and had it not been for the comedic musings of Harry Connick, Jr., Idol’s viewing audience would have been lulled to sleep by the night’s entertainment.

The show is the second in a serious of sub-par performances by the majority of contestants. The single exception this week was the believable rendition of “That’s Life” by Lee DeWyze.

DeWyze, finally showing a hint of swagger and personality was preceded by a sincere but flat Michael Lynche singing “The Way You Look Tonight.”

Crystal Bowersox, known by her fans as Mama Sox, had a solid but out-of-character round with the Chairman’s “Summer Wind.”

The first two performances of the night however were abysmal. Casey James gave a voice-quivering and uncomfortable performance with “Blue Skies” although his rock star qualities somehow shined through during his terrible stage time.

The impish Aaron Kelly, known by other contestants as Yoda, while not bad, was also not remarkable. Kelly has performed to his abilities throughout the season and those abilities no longer make the cut.

Expect Aaron Kelly and Casey James to make the bottom two this week with most likely young Yoda Kelly packing his bags.
